Who dictates your brand, and how to protect it

Who dictates your brand, and how do your protect it?
TL;DR.
What customers say about you is set long before the review box, by the assets and experiences they run into. A 2023 meta-analysis of 156 studies by Keda Qiu and Liyi Zhang in Data and Information Management found that review sentiment is the single strongest driver of intention. The reviews themselves you can't dictate, but the marketing assets behind them are the first thing customers see, and the one part of your reputation you fully control. That's the front Brandful covers: it turns your guidelines into an enforceable check, scores every asset against them before it ships, extends the same gate to outside vendors, and verifies claimed fixes before a revised asset goes live.
Who writes your brand now?
Most of it is written by people you don't employ. Bazaarvoice's 2024 Shopper Experience Index, a survey of more than 8,000 shoppers, found that 65% rely on user-generated content such as ratings, reviews, and photos when deciding what to buy, and that 86% engage with creator and marketing content before a purchase. The review section and the creator feed are where much of your brand gets written, continuously, by strangers.
What customers say follows from what they experience. Zendesk's 2 025 CX Trends report found that 63% of consumers will switch to a competitor after a single bad experience, up nine points year-on-year. Reputation gets written in the operations that produce those experiences, well before anyone reaches the review box.
Four moves a brand manager can make to take control
Two of these fronts sit outside any single tool. You can't stop someone from planting a fake review, and you can't fix a bad checkout from the brand desk. The asset you publish is the front you can put under a real system today, and it's the one that decides what people meet before they ever write a word about you.
- Give the AI a brand book it can enforce.
- Defining the guidelines and ensuring it is used in every piece of work is essential.
- Brandful parses your uploaded guidelines into structured sections and pulls your logos automatically, so "on brand" becomes something the system can score against instead of a document people unreliably interpret.
- Run every asset through a comprehensive compliance review before it ships.
- Brandful scores each image, PDF, social post, or block of copy against those guidelines and your visual identity.
- The off-brand version gets caught while still fully yours, not after it's live and shaping opinions.
- Put the people you don't employ on the same gate.
- Most of your brand is made by vendors, agencies, and freelancers. Brandful allows external creators to submit their own work for the same check, so external work clears the same bar as in-house work before anyone else sees it.
- Verify the fixes visually.
- When an asset comes back needing revision, whoever resubmits it ticks which problems they addressed, and Brandful checks each claimed fix against the new version.
- What's left is a versioned record of what was flagged, what got corrected, and what still stands, with the review thread kept next to the asset.
